I must protest this misquotation, what I actually said was:

Let's just leave Frank out of this, ok? Even if he is sort of small. Though if the person quoted were Bill Gates, it would be "beyond bizarre", not to mention totally random.

To be momentarily serious, what's really odd here is not the price cuts themselves, which make sense after a fashion if Intel is really serious about mainstreaming the P4. It's the 50% cut a week after the 1.7 intro. What's the point of that? Intel's going to flog enough 1.7 parts in a week to make their quarter? The other thing that's not quite falling in place here is that there seems to be no anticipation of these cuts on the pricewatch front.
