According to Don Coxe's (of Jones Heward) last weekly talk a reason for the continued strength of dollar and weakness of the Euro is that while the dollar is the underground currency of choice, the DM was a second favorite in Eastern Europe and Russia. With the changeover to the Euro, many holders of DM's in these countries found it easier to switch over to dollars and the DM got dumped by them. When the switch over to the Euro is complete, he suggests that the Euro will strengthen as it will become a competing currency in the underground economies of these and other countries.
