American Power Conversion Expands its Upgrade Program to Help Customers Revitalize Older Smart-UPS(R) and Back-UPS(R) Models
biz.yahoo.com
WEST KINGSTON, R.I., April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- IT Managers that have recently upgraded to new server technology now have new options to help eliminate exposure to costly downtime through APC. American Power Conversion's (APC) new Charge-UPS and Charge-UPS EX programs provide end-users the ability to refurbish existing APC uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units to a ``like-new'' condition.

The new Charge-UPS program is available for APC UPS units that are six years of age or less (serial numbers 9501 and higher). The program provides new user-replaceable, premium batteries and reactivates the two-year warranty on the complete UPS, including a $25,000 equipment protection guarantee (see policy for details). In addition, the program includes a bundled software upgrade to the latest version of APC's award-winning PowerChute® plus software, which dramatically enhances the reliability of a computer system and its applications by automatically protecting system and data integrity during a power crisis.

The Charge-UPS EX benefits users that do not want to handle battery replacement themselves or require special on-site service. The Charge-UPS EX includes all the benefits of the Charge-UPS program plus an additional service option. The IT Manager ships the UPS to the APC Service Center for battery replacement and system check, the ``like-new'' UPS is then shipped back to the end-user within 48 hours. If on-site replacement of batteries is required, it can be coordinated through APC's UPS Upgrade Programs Director.

``APC's new Charge-UPS programs are an easy and inexpensive way for customers to upgrade their current power protection and power manageability to run just like new,'' said Aaron Davis, vice president of marketing. ``The expansion of our existing programs gives customers the choice to upgrade or refurbish their existing UPS and secure the reliability of their power protection.''

Charge-UPS also offers a pre-paid package for proper disposal of old batteries, shipping via FedEx if a problem should arise with the UPS, and a free 30-day trial of APC's new PowerChute Inventory Manager software, a Web- based inventory management and reporting tool for network administrators. This award-winning software allows users to maximize the availability of the network by proactively diagnosing the health of installed APC UPSs across a wide-area network.

For customers interested in upgrading to a new UPS, APC's Trade-UPS program offers consumers up to a 40 percent discount on a new system, up to two times the VA (volt amps) of their current UPS, regardless of the manufacturer, or the ability to trade in multiple UPSs for a larger system with the latest APC UPS technology. In addition, consumers can benefit from substantial savings on many APC UPS accessories when purchased along with the new unit.

APC's new Charge-UPS and Charge-UPS EX programs are currently available in North America. Estimated resale price will range from $75 to $550 depending on UPS model. The Trade-UPS program is currently available in North America and Europe.
