<was that person forced to buy a stock? >

Nope. And your points are exactly right. Ultimate responsibility lies with each investor, or gambler in some cases.

But you are assuming every viewer is knowledgeable about such things. These people use CNBS as a tool.

However there is a good portion of the TARGETED cnbs audience that is not in the above population because their expertise lies in other fields. They may be a doctor. Salesperson. Clerk. Teacher. Retired Postal Worker. Auto mechanic. Anything but finance professional. These people just get used by CNBS and their professional touts.

A big difference.

But hey thats ok, we're just a bunch of journalists parading around as financial gurus who know all. After all we do lead the market in the way or tout leans. Don't listen to us, we're just reporting the news, and no we didn't stampede that herd coming your way.

Case in point. The endless pumping of "pick an internet stock" with 100 Billion market cap and no sales. UP $75 TODAY!!!! Repeated hundreds of time. Breathlessly by all. All day every hour. But of these "professionals" bothered tp stop and say BEWARE! $100 Billion and no sales is dangerous.
