A lot of sense in that. My kind of conservative. He's right: The welfare state is now so entrenched that even the "conservatives" no longer talk about how to eliminate it, simply how to finance it. The no longer oppose socialized medicine, they try to find funding for federal-financed prescription coverage. The argument that schools and their control and funding are a local and at most state matter has not been heard in years. They no longer claim that the 2nd Amendment makes gun control laws illegal; they argue over how far those laws can go. They accept rates of taxation that would have ignited revolution among their forefathers. The idea that the powers of the federal government were intended to be and should be limited is considered quaint. It may be a while yet before Big Brother puts his boot on our necks, but that day will come. The war is lost.
