Other lesson was that when during this crisis the US was looking at their traditional allies, the Western Europeans, they noticed certain level of lack of enthusiasm. Not to say chilliness. And why were the Euros passing sick bags to each other? This lead to some prompt action. Did anybody notice how amazingly quickly the long grinding great banana commerce war was resolved? The realization has sunk in the States: the nice guy gets things done, the nice guy gets prosperous in the process. US ended up as the great winner. - rajala
