As the only outsider, as the only whining commie Euro bastard (not to mention a GSM perv, one of my most shameful qualities) I am the only unbiased authority on this thread to declare the winner.

The winner is... the USA.

Why?

Because the neanderthalian, emotionally overcharged cold war relics of the US senate and congress realized that confrontation and toughness is not the way. It fundamentally and systematically works against the US interest. Its stupid.

Other lesson was that when during this crisis the US was looking at their traditional allies, the Western Europeans, they noticed certain level of lack of enthusiasm. Not to say chilliness. And why were the Euros passing sick bags to each other?

This lead to some prompt action. Did anybody notice how amazingly quickly the long grinding great banana commerce war was resolved?

The realization has sunk in the States: the nice guy gets things done, the nice guy gets prosperous in the process.

US ended up as the great winner.
