've lived 30-odd years in cities (I'm in a smaller town now, by UK standards anyhow). Barring a few soldiers (obviously), - I don't know anyone who's fired a gun at someone, ever. - I don't know anyone who's been shot. - I don't know anyone who's even been shot at. Can you say the same?
I've lived 50+ years, some in cities (including big ones -- Philadelphia, New York, Seattle), some not.
I actually don't even know any soldiers who've fired guns at anybody. Even though my son is in the Air Force. I suppose some of my friends who were in WWII or Vietnam did, but I don't know that they did -- never discussed (My father was too old for service, my father in law was a navigator on planes over Germany and never shot at anybody. Never discharged his weapon except in training). I don't know anyone who's ever fired a gun at anybody. I don't know anybody who's been shot. I don't know anyone who's ever been shot at.
Oh, wait a moment. I once met a Sheriff's deputy here who shot a man in the leg. Does that count? I met him before the incident, but remember reading his name in the paper after he shot the guy in the leg.
So I think we're pretty even, except that you have a lot of years to go to catch up with me. |
