remember, the secular bear market isn't over until stocks begin to outperform money market funds again. so it is not the absolute price low that marks its end, just as it is not the absolute price high that marks its beginning. for instance, the equal weighted indices as represented by the VL Geometric index topped out in '98 already.

so we may see an important price low in late 2002 or early 2003, but the secular bear may well last a lot longer, and make marginal new lows a few years later. in Japan, they also thought the '92 low was IT. it wasn't.
