<<I don't believe the "all the bad news is already priced in" slogan.>> ....... I agree completely, although I am confident that the big technology stocks are much closer to a turning point than the non-technology companies on the NYSE and the Nasdaq, including of course, the non-technology S&P 500 companies.

<<If you were running a company, you would be throwing everything bad into this quarter to get it over with, wouldn't you?>> ....... I agree with two exceptions ... (1) if the stock valuation has not yet been totally trashed (GE and IBM come to mind), I might not ... and (2) if there were legitimate reasons that a company could not live with a further depreciated stock (say the company might be for sale) ...

... This does not apply to SUNW however ...

Motorola, Cisco Systems, Nortel, Sycamore Networks (and others, probably) seem to be making a concerted effort to get earnings expectations and stock values to the point where 2002 comparisons to 2001 might be easy to beat ... although such a strategy might be filled with danger if the economy works against them again next year.

Unfortunately, I do not expect the major negative effects from the comng recession to even start arriving until late summer or early fall. If that turns out to be accurate, at least the first half of 2002 could be unpleasant as well.
