P4 Mainboard Shipments 50% Below Expectations In Q1
Reported by jdpc at 5:38PM

Intel's decision to drastically reduce prices on some P4's may be explained by a report at DigiTimes. Here's the gist;
"Pentium 4 motherboard shipments of Asustek Computer, Gigabyte Technology and Micro-Star International (MSI) in the first quarter of this year were about 20,000, 20,000 and 40,000 units, respectively. Those numbers fell 50% short from earlier estimates of 80,000-100,000 units."
The slow economy is believed responsible. The source report is here.
DigiTimes also explains why Intel may not care if WindowsXP initially ships without USB 2.0 support. They're developing IEEE 1394 technology, as you can see right here.
