Sudan to produce aviation fuel this year, energy minister says

Khartoum, 10 April (SUNA) -- Sudan will begin this year production of planes' fuel at Khartoum Oil Refinery, said the minister of energy and mining, Dr Awad Ahmed Al-Jaz.

The minister was briefing Monday [9 April] the National Assembly on the policies and programmes of his ministry for the year 2001 in the oil, mining and electricity power fields.

Dr Al-Jaz pointed out that the coming stage will witness expanding the oil exploration work to increase the petroleum productivity. He said that the plan aims at increasing the oil pumping capacity of the pipeline to 230,000 barrels and development of the infrastructures for petroleum industry.

The minister referred to a plan for expanding the production capacity of Port Sudan Oil Refinery to 70,000 barrels, as well as promoting the operational capacity of Al-Ubbayid and Abu Jabrah refineries.

The past years witnessed investments in the mining, electricity and national energy fields, Dr Al-Jaz said.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly, chaired by Speaker Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Tahir, referred the minister's statement to its energy committee for studying.
