You never know when "weird" will come back in style. When I was growing up Cajun style food was considered weird, but you'd never know it now.
Northern European, Eastern European, and Scandianavian food tastes strange to me, too much starch, not enough seasoning. I can't believe anyone voluntarily eats lutefisk, but that's just me. Given the choice between lutefisk and crawfish from Belle Isle, no contest, IMO. I'd crawl through broken glass for Belle Isle crawfish.
My father in law, who was born in Arkansas and served in WWII, thought it was very strange that the Louisiana boys and Texas boys carried giant sized Tabasco bottles with them at mealtimes.
My husband's grandmother, who had actually owned a restaurant in Germany once, used to put hot dogs into everything she cooked.
I never ate her cooking. All I can say is that my own grandmothers cooked like angels, but my mother's talents lay elsewhere. |
