"Finally, don't forget the lessons of Beta Max vs. VHS in the
video recording field and Apple vs. Microsoft with computers.
In both cases the best marketing won out not the best system (for
those of you who believe Globalstar to be superior."

VHS won because it was simpler to make and was the first to fit two
hours of recording time on one tape. Have you seen the two trans-
ports side by side? Sony's beta transport is a mechanical marvel.
That was the problem.

Sure, Beta actually had better picture Quality.
But, consumers wanted to get an entire show on a tape without losing picture quality to it's SLP mode...

As for IBM and MacIntosh, Apple spared no expense on its marketing
campaign (they had many advantages to promote) and look where it
is now.

As for Iridium's marketing, I hope they choose a different
ad agency. Motorola's startac mission-impossible ad is corny.

Globalstar looks good because the sattelites are not as complex and
will last longer and be cheaper to operate. It's CDMA technology
could give it better sound quality and more capacity per bird.
Isn't that what it is all about?
