(Warning - computer enthusiast tech geek rambling about to ensue)

Pete: I've just decided to upgrade from a 600 Duron to a 1.1 Ghz Thunderbird (the 266 FSB version) with 256MB
PC-133 SDRAM on a MSI KT7 Pro Motherboard.. (however.. i'm a "conventional" clocker.. so I'm not going to attempt an overclock :) )

We have an employee purchase plan at my company where I work for buying computer systems/upgrades.. so rather then instantly put me back a few hundred bucks.. I'll get 20$ or so deducted from my paycheque the rest of the year - not bad. I decided there wasnt any real point with what I use my computer for to bother with a DDR system.

With the extra money I have doing it this way.. I decided to splurge a bit and orderd a Turtle Beach Santa Clara sound card to upgrade my Diamond Mx-300 (it was a good card.. just wanted a card that had a company doing updated drivers for it) .. looks like the Santa Clara supports all sound formats (EAX, A3D, and a couple of others) and it was a heck of a lot less expensive then Creative Labs offerings

A bit of advice for those upgrading: if you use Windows ME, Creative Labs products seem to not have very good drivers for it -I'm on a site where there are several people warning about this for the Platinum and the X-gamer 5.1 card.. this is why I decided to go with Turtle Beach along with the good price.

(Tech Rant Off)
