Lundin Oil supported by South Sudan Relief Agency (SSRA)
Finanstidningen (Sweden), April 11

Lundin Oil, the Swedish oil company, has recently been subjected to fierce criticism for its activities in Sudan, a country in a state of civil war. However, Lundin Oil is now being supported by South Sudan Relief Agency (SSRA), the South-African based aid organisation, which claims that a major part of the information spread in the Swedish media is wrong. The organisation, which is politically independent, wrote that although oil exploitation adds a new element to the conflict, the presence of companies like Talisman Energy of Canada and Lundin Oil has been positive for people in southern Sudan.

SSRA stated that oil companies have contributed with subsidies and aid for the construction of schools, hospitals and water purification systems. It furthermore claims that a withdrawal from the area would not stop money being injected to the government in Khartoum, but would instead lead to a more dominant position for the government-controlled Chinese oil company.
