Hardly any young women are willing to identify as feminists, not because they do not believe that women should be treated as individuals with their own interests and talents, but precisely because they do, and take it for granted that that is not what contemporary feminism is about.

My wife is an association executive in Washington. Before that, she was a college administrator. I stayed home to raise the baby and pursue my interests in studying and writing. At this point, about 20% of men make my decision. She makes much more than I do, and I am proud of her and back her up as much as I can. Both of us are conservative, neither of us feels there is an incompatibility between that and our choices. That is how taken for granted fundamental equity feminism is........
