I don't know about that. Accountable to the President is a recipe for political manipulations. Same with Congress. I say eliminate the position altogether. Let's go get a really smart Chimpanzee and give him dice. The one with three sides will be marked up, down, and stay the same. The one with 10 sides will be marked 1-10, for 0.1%-1.0. When the meeting rolls around, we consult the Chimpanzee, he rolls the dice, and we have our decision! It may be erratic, but over the long term on average the effect will be neutral. :) Can't be worse than these bullwhip effects Greenspan puts us through.
