Of course, China has a totalitarian government, which like other totalitarian governments demands loyalty from its officials and offers rewards in return. It is the ideal setup for rampant corruption, so no wonder people are distrustful. This kind of climate makes doing business difficult for companies, whether big ones like Nike or small ones like SanDisk. The Chinese will have to learn that governments that are founded on unquestioning loyalty and cronyism do not provide a very good climate for efficient business operations.
