Getting to trough bookings in 3 months isn't what has happened in other downturns.

Exactly my point...this may be different because of JIT and direct links between customers' order books and suppliers.

The increased speed of information transfer, doesn't change the speed at which decision-makers think (or the accuracy of their ability to predict the future)

Human decision makers aren't involved anymore...MRP systems are linked directly to customers' order books and when orders fall...the supplier's planning systems instantly curtail the build plan. In addition, there are no longer delays due to multiple levels of distribution and associated inventories which previously acted as buffers (up and down) in the old days.
