We can't take an isolationist view anywhere in the world. We need to monitor China's military moves closely and at the very least, make any development an issue for the entire world, just as was done by Bush with Iraq. Now if you suggest we get Japan to pay for such surveillance, you won't get much argument from Japan. It's close enough so they can see it as a clear and present danger.
I could see China launching an assault on Taiwan, North Korea launching simultaneously against South Korea, and both of them challenging a militarily weak Japan. Neither belligerent though has a navy or air force, but they probably have SCUDs.
With the US busy with the co-prosperity sphere and the Democrats busy drawing a line, the rest of Asia would be free to romp. Pakistan vs India, Iraq vs anyone available, Indonesia attacking Malaysia, Australia annexing the Sudeten NewZealann, you got a Third World War. Maybe it will all be started over Quemoy and Matsu. |
