Well, just because he made one bad call doesn't mean they'll ALL be bad (even if it is DeNials we're talking about). Secondly, just because Joseph made one GOOD call, doesn't mean they'll all be good. Third, Niles had just moved from Robbers and Stealems to Lame Man before he made that call. You don't suppose the house was leaning on him just a little to "foster a close relationship with the client" do you? Fourth, his call said "in the absence of a recession"....errr, well, looks like the escape clause applies here.

After Niles was at Lehman a few months, he became bearish, WELL before the bottom on the semis. I think he's overpaid, but I also think cutting off communication to the companies he follows per reg FD has helped purge his inner clown, and made him a better analyst. It's also interesting that his not alone in his unbullish views. Time will tell, but I find the rationale that Joseph used ("things are so bad they can't possibly get any worse") curiously short on "analysis" and long on wishful thinking.
