Hi ahhaha; Re: "the rest of Asia would be free to romp. Pakistan vs India, Iraq vs anyone available, Indonesia attacking Malaysia, Australia annexing the Sudeten New Zealand, you got a Third World War. Maybe it will all be started over Quemoy and Matsu."

LOL!!! Be serious!

Sure there are more ways that the world could dissolve into anarchy than we can easily imagine, but that doesn't make the goal of forever possessing overwhelming conventional military force a mirage. Eventually most of the rest of the world will catch up with the US in terms of economic, political and military power, and we should now be preparing the world for that eventuality.

It's not possible for us to force the rest of the world to have regimes that we are happy with. Hey, I was all for using the CIA to flip a few undeveloped nations back onto our side during the cold war, but this is peace, and we don't have those options.

Instead, we need to scrupulously treat other nations the same way that we wish them to treat us. At the same time, we need to help the small nations avoid being bullied by the bigger ones. (Prevent Australia, for instance, from ripping the odd islands off of New Zealand.)
