SAN DIEGO, Apr 13, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced it has signed non-binding memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with Korean wireless service provider LG Telecom Ltd., and four device manufacturers. These companies, as well as 18 more software developers, join a growing list of firms expressing their interest in QUALCOMM''s Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless(TM) (BREW(TM)) applications platform, as QUALCOMM''s inaugural BREW 2001: Developer and 3G Technology Conference approaches, set for May 8-10, 2001.

The BREW platform allows rapid development of a wide variety of applications designed specifically for wireless devices that users will be able to download over carrier networks onto any BREW-enabled phone. Individuals interested in attending BREW 2001 can register at www.brew2001.com while space is available.

"The BREW platform allows carriers to quickly and easily identify new services, expand existing services and offer exclusive BREW applications," said Peggy Johnson, senior vice president of QUALCOMM and general manager of QUALCOMM Internet Services. "We are very happy to work with LG Telecom on the goal of providing exceptional data application services to consumers."

QUALCOMM has signed non-binding MOUs with device manufacturers: Hyundai, LG Electronics Inc., Cyberlane Inc., and eAnywhere Tech Inc. The BREW platform benefits manufacturers by shortening their time to market and allowing them to differentiate their products easily with custom applications.

Adding to an already impressive group of applications developers (see related announcements on Jan. 31 and March 20, 2001), QUALCOMM has signed non-binding MOUs with:

-- Bluetooth -- Ezcommunication Inc., Japan Total Design Communication Co. Ltd.

-- Browser -- KDD R&D Laboratories Inc.

-- Communication -- High Speed Net Solutions, dynamicsoft Inc., Internet Number Corp.

-- Enterprise -- ideaEdge Ventures Inc., IFWORLD Inc.

-- Games/Entertainment -- Affect Co. Ltd., Faith Inc., Index Corporation, InfoSpace Inc., Thin Multimedia Inc., Togabi Technologies

-- Software Solutions for the Java Platform -- Insignia Solutions Inc.

-- Messaging -- Fujitsu Limited, MessageVine Inc.

-- Visual Communications -- LightSurf Technologies Inc.

QUALCOMM is licensing the BREW platform to handset manufacturers and applications developers free of charge and will provide developers with a Windows(R)-based Software Development Kit (SDK) that includes a handset emulator and several other development tools. Developers attending the "BREW 2001: Developer and 3G Technology Conference," May 8-10, 2001, will be the first to receive the commercial release of the BREW software development kit (SDK).
