Sold all my nokia long ago. I once thought that nok would push cdma (buy buying and using q chips) and they would totally dominate every handest market. When they didn't do it, I bailed.

Nokia has been very successful, but so was mot and ericy.

I see several flaws in Nokia's strategy.
1)They are pushing an inferior 3G technology instead of trying to take full advantage of being on the train with the best one. Their moves have been defensive, not offensive. How long can they "dup" the world? Remember Lars (Liars) Ramquist of ericy's TDMA or Bust statement? Well nok appears to be saying WCDMA or bust.

2) They are a vertically integrated company and have a stubborn mindset. Nok has to do it all "in house". To give an example besides buying Q chips, I spoke with the CEO of APW who makes base station boxes and he said that although APW had a better way of doing it for Nok, Nokia's mindset was not to use them because they preferred to do it themselves. This sort of strategy keeps nok from providing the best products they are capable of. It may get them in the end.

3) As someone said, the financing of WCDMA networks is betting a significant amount on a technology that is not as cost effective as the competition. I think that that is a very dangerous thing to do. Of course they stand to reap greater rewards if they can "dup" the carriers, but if WCDMA rollout is a flop, look out. As I said, with 1XeV you rollover capacity to data as needed, which puts carriers at much less risk than doing the whole system over and ending up with big empty pipes.

4) Handsets are a commodity, and although CNBC and the investment community have called them leaders (which they are in market share now), if any of you guys take a look at the Asian handsets lately, the coolest ones are surely coming from there. They will be more and more visible in the US and other markets as time marches on.

5) The financial press is starting to see the truth. There are articles coming out comparing CDMA to GSM, 1X to GPRS, cdma2000 to WCDMA. Gee which is better in every case? Hellooooo? The next lie to be exposed I suppose will be the royalty scam. Royalties on CDMA/1X/1Xev/cdma2000 5% to Q, royalties on GSM/GPRS/WCDMA 26%. HellOOOOOOOOOO?

They way I look at it, if nok suddenly started moving to cdma2000, then I would consider. But if they did, my money would be better off sitting in qcom wouldn't it?

As for why I post here and follow nokia, don't need to preach to the chior, and nok is the lead dog of the evil empire.
