Hi, Rob - "I think it was during the FY00 CC that Bill Hews indicated they had just completed a network covering Shenzhen. Perhaps this is related."

I don't recall that one. I do remember a statement to the effect that, at that point, sales had been made, but that they were small enough as to be considered non-material.

As of last year, I was actively discounting any China rumors, because of the above statement, and the proclivity of investors to get stars in their eyes whenever "China" is mentioned.

I recall posts by Scada, Arc, and myself where we pointed to the difficulties and uncertainties involved in setting up business in China.

So on the whole (perhaps in self-protection) I have been inclined to minimize any potential there.

However, with the addition of the Ministry of Information Industry China to the OFDM Forum...

ShenZhen...

...and finally, the specific mention of ShenZhen in the article...

...I believe there is room for cautious optimism, no more.

Such optimism as I have is based on the fact that Wi-LAN's products have apparently been recognized as best-of-class, that Wi-LAN has evidently been (a perhaps unwitting) part of a new Chinese technology initiative, that Canada has long had a good relationship with China, and that therefore, Wi-LAN has an early start at being considered and evaluated for providing future high-capacity coded OFDM networks. This, in spite of the fact that the equipment provided at ShenZhen is not coded OFDM.

But there's a long way to go, and my hopes are guarded.

Best,

Jim
