Seems to me there is a great difference in looking at a rock and exchanging impressions, and talking about something intangible and exchanging impressions. And I would argue that even our communications on material things are fraught with miscommunication, so our attempts to communicate in more iffy areas are just hopeless.

Paris, at least, exists (to some extent). Many of us have been there, if not at the same time. We have in our memories impressions of sights and smells and tastes that we experienced from an external source. As far as I know no one here has visited a deity- except "internally". Two people who believe in the same deity could exchange data on it, but even they can't be sure that what they are referring to is the same, because they can't reach into themselves and hold out whatever it is they think they have experienced and say "This is what I am commenting on, is what you are commenting on similar to this?" . They can't say I took such and such a flight and ended up in this airport to visit my deity. And while visiting I stayed at such and such hotel and ate such and such food and my deity said X, Y, and Z. There is a huge layer of uncertainty when you try to communicate about intangible things. Even if you think you are understanding someone about an intangible I suspect the odds are against it happening.
