Daily Double: Juniper Continues to Blossom
By Bill Mann

I have a confession: Networking equipment company Juniper Networks (Nasdaq: JNPR - news) has confounded me almost since the moment it came public.

Sure, Juniper's products have received rave reviews by customers and independent benchmarkers alike -- including a recent Light Reading benchmark test that had its flagship M160 core router ranked superior to comparable products from Cisco Systems (Nasdaq: CSCO - news), Foundry (Nasdaq: FDRY - news), and others. Yet there was something that created a deep distrust in this stock for me.

Looking at the company's first-quarter earnings, I'm hereby calling a truce. The price action has shown that Juniper had a huge amount of froth built in, but its products are worldbeaters, and thus should be viewed by Cisco's management as a threat.

[Doh!]
