Two more defendants settle with E-data, take licenses in
Internet patent infringement suit

SECAUCUS, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 2, 2996--E-data Corp. (OTC Bulletin Board:
GIFT) announced that two additional defendants in the patent infringement suit brought by the
company, in U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut on March 26, 1996, have settled
with E-data and taken licenses, leaving 16 remaining defendants in the suit.

E-data president Arnold L. Freilich said that Index Stock Photography Inc. of New York and
Monotype Typography Inc. of Elk Grove Village, Ill., both privately held, were granted licenses
today. The business of Index Stock Photography includes distributing digital images over the
Internet, while that of Monotype Typography includes distributing fonts using locked and encrypted
CD-ROMS.

Terms and conditions of the settlements were not disclosed.

The E-dataSystem(TM) system and method patent (U.S. patent No. 4,528,643 and corresponding
Canadian and European patents), entitled "System for Reproducing Information in Material Objects
at a Point of Sale Location," generally relates to electronic commerce applications involving the
Internet and CD-ROM. It covers most on-demand and pay-as-you-go transactions involving the
purchase of products composed of digital data, including software, information, fonts, images, music
and video.

E-data is pursuing similar litigation against thirteen remaining defendants in U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York. A key hearing date in that suit has been set for Sept. 6th, but
Freilich indicated that negotiations were ongoing with several of the defendants in the New York
case, too, relating to settlement and licensing.

E-data has previously granted worldwide non-exclusive licenses to IBM, VocalTec and Adobe
Systems among others.
