I'd pit Dan Niles against this joker any day ...
... did you catch his remarks last week?

Seem to be somewhat minimized although CNBC has given quite a bit of air time ...

Bia, I think Dan Niles is the joker. I was Jonathen Joseph who called the top in semiconductor stocks last year while Ashok Kumar followed with that HUGE downgrade of Intel first week of September2000 that sent the market tumbling.
Joseph for semiconductors in general and Ashok Kumar for Intel and PC stocks is how the market sees it, IMHO. Those are the names worth watching at this point.

Niles only caught on later on the downturn in the semi--well after Kumar and Joseph.

I remember seeing Niles put down Intel one day saying that the cell phone was going to replace the PC. (LOL)
A month or two he turns around and says it goes to 75 post split by summer of 2000----and it did.

The way I see it, if the other reputable chip and PC analyst Ashok Kumar of Piper Jafry upgrades Intel, the semiconductors will lead the market significantly higher.
Right now there is just too much risk that Kumar might upgrade Intel as soon as he sees the first signs of turnarounds.

Don't get me wrong. I am not saying any of these guys are right. I am stating what the market reaction will be. They might be proved wrong in a few months from now but I am interested more in the market reaction and less in what really happens a few months from now. I am somewhat bearish on many tech sectors for the intermediate term or at best just neutral. I am only bullish for a rapid short term rally. The energy problems, high debt MAY be a problem for the market down the road.

When Joseph called the top, the stocks went down and then rebounded but later kept going down. People are always careful to not dismiss comments from someone who saw things unfold before there was any hint of a slowdown in the businesses. He just has too much credibility right now and that is what is the scary part even if one is bearish. Too much of a following for this guy.

BTW--Apart from Dan Niles' Dell call of a couple of years ago and his Intel call of last year, I don't think he is that good in terms of predicting stock performance.
He likes to see the fundamentals turn around before making the buy call---Joseph does the opposite. Everyone is aware that the stocks will be moving up before we see any recovery. I was light in semiconductor stocks but decided to take a stab at a few just because Joseph's call acts as a support for those stocks.
