From Mark Veverka's "Plugged In" column in the April 16 issue of Barron's:

"...software industry sources say Hewlett-Packard has been especially busy, kicking the tires of various middleware companies, especially those selling enterprise application integration software. In particular, H-P has been looking at SeeBeyond Technology and web-Methods, a maker of both business-to-business Internet software and EAI software, software industry sources say.

"H-P, which already has a relationship with webMethods, has held exploratory buyout negotiations with the Virginia-based company, these sources say. Telephone calls to webMethods Chief Executive Phillip Merrick were not returned before press time."
