They are somewhat tolerant of some religions- ergo not very tolerant in toto. By tolerant I mean, "allowing" something without jailing the person practicing whatever religion they are practicing. I suppose we could be using the word tolerant differently. Average Joe claimed the Chinese were in love with Buddhism. I've seen no evidence for that, and have always seen nothing but contempt from the organized communist part for any kind of religion. So perhaps we agree. I was trying to figure out how Average Joe arrived at his conclusion that the Chinese "love" Buddhism, when the opposite conclusion seems clear to me. I was stretching a bit (imo) to say they tolerate it.
