Maybe we should have just stagnated like Japan. According to the BP shareholders article, the Bush Administration WANTS high energy prices to help them push into Alaska and all the oil companies are going to contribute to shortages this summer to scare the US voters into backing off their concern for the environment. <<<< Surely you jest. Almost every recession of the last 30 yrs has been brought on by high energy prices. Certainly GW doesn't want to be associated with another recession. More drilling in ANWR or anywhere else will increase oil supplies and bring down prices. Has one word been uttered by the Bush team about trying to bring down prices? <<<<< Lower prices would increase consumption and decrease exploration. High prices would force conservation, and I thought you were in favor of that.
