he German Shorthair Pointer or German Braco was developed in Germany since the XVII century by breeders who were looking for a dog that could be used in several types of hunts, that was a skilled pointer and most of all, fast. It is also known as Kurzhaar and its origins are linked to the Spanish Pointers, to the Foxhound - of which it inherited its speed - and to the Bloodhound, whose heritage was its remarkable smell. According to other sources, the German Pointer was developed from crossings between the Italian Braco and other Spanish hunting dogs.

With its elegant appearance, smaller and faster than the English Pointer, this versatile hunter was taken to the USA only in 1920, and quickly became very popular, being appreciated by hunters for its endurance and energy. Extremely skilled in duck, geese and pheasant hunting, it can also be used for game hunting and performs as well in water as well on land. It is a dog that was developed to hunt close to its master, waiting for signs to retrieve the catch and bring it intact. In Brazil, due to hunting restrictions, this dog is not well known, but its few breeders are in love with them.
