I've told the story several times about my college roommate who broke up with her boyfriend because they didn't want a mixed marriage. She was a Methodist and he was a Presbyterian. I still shake my head when I think about that decision. I'm sure Neo could come up with a short list of differences between Methodists and Presbyterians but, from my perspective, they're indistinguishable.
The point of the story is that we all make finer distinctions at our end of the continuum than we do at the other end of the continuum. So I understand that you lump atheists and agnostics together. For your information, an atheist is one who believes that there is no god. An agnostic doesn't know or doesn't care. Technically, I'm an agnostic because I have no certainty that there is no god. Unlike X, I don't object to the term, atheist. I don't use either term to describe myself. I usually call myself secular or non-religious, both of which are more generic terms. Feel free to use any of those terms or choose something else that suits you. I don't mind.
FWIW, I feel a certain companionship with both X and Steven with regard to my religious beliefs. I don't think I've ever seen Steven post anything on the subject that couldn't have been written by me. I'm not sure I've ever heard E's religious beliefs. I'm more aware of her posting on the implications of religion for society than on her beliefs, per se.
I sense that you disapprove of atheists. Perhaps you disapprove of other non-religious as well. Would you share your thoughts?
