This directory contains a Master Setup Program (SETUP.EXE) for the Windows 98 Resource Kit Sampler that is separate from the Windows 98 operating system installation. When you run this Setup program, it installs all of the Sampler utilities on your computer's hard drive, except the tools in the Net Administration (NETADMIN) category, which require separate installation procedures. See Section 1.3 of this document for more information about installing these tools.
The following is a list of the main directories of the Windows 98 Resource Kit Sampler on the Windows 98 compact disc. Note that The \TOOLS directory contains files and folders that are not part of the Resource Kit Sampler installation.

1.1 Issues with Specific Tools
1.2 General Setup Instructions
To install the Windows 98 Resource Kit Sampler tools and utilities, first install the Windows 98 operating system, and then use the following procedure:
To install the Windows 98 Resource Kit Sampler 1. Start Windows 98 and insert the Windows 98 compact disc in your CD-ROM drive. 2. When the Autorun screen appears, click Browse this CD. 3. In the \Tools\ResKit directory, click Setup.Exe. 4. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen.
The Setup program installs all the Resource Kit files onto your hard disk and requires a maximum of 12 MB of free space.
Setup creates a Windows 98 Resource Kit folder on the Start menu with a shortcut to the Tools Management Console (TMC) which is used to browse, acquire help on and run the tools. For more information about these utilities, choose the Windows 98 Resource Kit Tools Overview (WIN98RK.HLP) shortcut.
Setup also adds the \Program Files\WIN98RK directory (or the directory name you choose for installing the utilities) to your computer's PATH statement.
Some Resource Kit utilities require separate or additional setup besides the steps described above. The following sections describe some special setup requirements. For more information about each of these utilities and others with additional requirements, see the Overview of Windows 98 Resource Kit Tools (WIN98RK.HLP) online Help file.
1.3 Network Administration Tools
The utilities in the Network Administration (NETADMIN) category are not installed with the Windows 98 Resource Kit standard installation. These tools require a separate setup procedure.
Installing System Policy Editor To avoid unauthorized use, System Policy Editor is not installed in the standard Windows 98 Resource Kit installation.
To install System Policy Editor from the Windows 98 compact disc: 1 Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2 Click the Add/Remove Programs icon. 3 Click the Windows Setup tab, and then click Have Disk. 4 Insert the Windows 98 compact disc into your CD-ROM drive. In the Install From Disk dialog box, browse to the \TOOLS\RESKIT\NETADMIN\POLEDIT directory, select the Poledit.Inf file, and then click OK.
System Policy Editor will be installed and a start menu item will be added to your Programs/Accessories/System Tools folder.
