The reason is I have not tried shorting yet, it requires a different mentality than going long, the risks are large, etc etc etc. This whole 2000-2001 experience has me thinking differently and I may try shorting before long. Anyway, I had my best year ever on a dollar basis last year, that was short term long trades and I'm up 20% YTD, mainly thanks to January. So if I can make money on the bounces, why fret about going short? The thing is 2001 is different, no real bounces outside of January. This market is in "flush-mode" and you're right to say I missed an opportunity, ones that I will pay more attention too in the future.

Cheers,

Tom
