A comment about LSI logic's (LSI) revenues growing less than 9% somewhere in a future quarter caused today's drop. This wasn't a warning by LSI logic, nor a warning about the current quarter ending June 30th...seem a bit indirect?

Interesting, as to a certain degree LSI and XLNX products can be antagonistic; i.e., older ASIC-based designs may be on the decline while newer PLD-based designs may be increasing...for example, shared media hubs (older) vs. advanced switching products (newer).

PALO ALTO, Calif., June 10 (Reuter) - LSI Logic Corp's
revenue growth could be less than expected in the third
quarter, Montgomery Securities analyst Clark Westmont said in a
research report Tuesday.
-- Westmont said he was comfortable with estimates for the
June quarter, but said the computer chipmaker has been
"cautious" about prospects for the September quarter.
-- Revenue growth in the third quarter could be less than
Montgomery's previous forecast of 9 percent over the June
quarter.
-- "We are not changing our estimates until more
information is available after the June quarter," he wrote.
-- LSI shares plunged 5-1/8, or 13 percent, to 34 on New
York Stock Exchange trading of 8.72 million shares. The stock
was the second most active on the Big Board.
