Also had this description of an 1988 IRS film for High School kids:
"Income Tax and You," the opening segment of "Understanding Taxes," is riotously (though unwittingly) funny. It features a suburban Chicago teenager named Jake who wants a car and a date with the succulent Samantha, his colleague at the local bike store. But Jake realizes that the car is out of his reach when he gets his first paycheck and discovers the taxman has taken his cut. There's also a love triangle: Samantha is already dating Henry, the shop's assistant manager, a bad boy who is thinking of quitting the bike shop and evading taxes by getting an off-the-books construction job that pays a whopping $5 an hour.
Henry drives a silver Corvette. How he can afford such a snazzy set of wheels is never explained, but it makes him appear more desirable than the bike-bound Jake. Samantha, however, turns out not to be the kind of girl who's impressed by fancy cars. Instead, she is swept away by the erotic allure of good citizenship, and ultimately she rejects Henry and falls for Jake. The story closes with Jake and a radiant Samantha, just before sunset, on a tandem bike headed for a dance. Accompanying the scene is Jake's mildly suggestive voice-over: "So, like I said at the beginning, you never know when voluntary compliance will come in handy." |
