no ms dos prompt via start... programs... accessories on ME, but I put ms dos prompt into Search and found a link to DOSPRMPT, and now have a shortcut to it on my desktop. I'll try it tomorrow -- typing in

unlock c: /unlock c:

and will report. I assume this would have to be done each time, not that it would cure the glitch. Which is okay.

The command above is the one i'm going to type in because it's the one from this link you gave. (I think you must have typed it wrong in your post number 18782 where you wrote c: /unlock c:)
