Yahoo! Names Warner Bros. Executive As CEO, Chairman
Tuesday April 17 8:25 AM ET

dailynews.yahoo.com

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Reuters) - Internet media giant Yahoo! Inc. (NasdaqNM:YHOO) said on Tuesday it named show business executive Terry Semel as its chairman and chief executive officer effective May 1, replacing longtime CEO Tim Koogle who stepped down from his post on March 7.

The Santa Clara, Calif.-based Yahoo said Koogle has been named vice chairman, a transitional role he is expected to retain until August 2001. He will also stay on as a board director. President and Chief Operating Officer Jeff Mallett and Chief Financial Officer Susan Decker will continue in their current roles and will report to Semel, the company said.

Semel, who also purchased one million common Yahoo shares, joins the company from Warner Bros., where he was co-chairman and co-CEO. He is credited with building Warner Bros. into one of the most successful media and entertainment operations.

Prior to working for Warner Bros., Semel was president of Walt Disney's Theatrical Distribution division and previously was president of CBS' Theatrical Distribution division.

Shares of Yahoo closed at $17.62 on the Nasdaq stock market on Monday.
