As China's largest mobile operator with approximately 65 million subscribers, China Mobile is continually introducing innovative value-added network services such as VoIP and WAP content and commerce through CMNet, its own national data network. Portal Software's Infranet Interconnect software will support the increasingly stringent demands for efficient, accurate, and transparent settlement among China Mobile's provincial subsidiaries.

Upon completion, China Mobile's settlement centre will be capable of handling tens of million events per hour and deliver necessary flexibility, availability, and scalability to support next-generation wireless services for China Mobile's large customer base. With Portal's proven wireless experience and Infranet's carrier-grade performance, multiple services support, and unlimited scalability, China Mobile can deliver to its subscribers more convenient and valuable services while adding high-margin revenue streams.

``The rollout of mobile data services to our 65 million subscribers dramatically elevates the performance requirements of our interconnect billing infrastructure,'' said a China Mobile spokesman. ``After evaluating competing solutions, we found that Infranet Interconnect is the only product capable of delivering carrier-grade performance while handling the complexity of next-generation data services.''

``China Mobile represents an important win and further validation of Portal's leadership position in the mobile wireless market. Interconnect billing is a complex issue for mobile operators, and we are proud to be servicing the billing needs of the world's largest single-operator wireless network,'' said Robert Lau, vice president, Portal Software (Asia Pacific) Limited.
