Intel Unveils 'Micro Signal Architecture'

NEW YORK -- Intel Corp. unveiled its Intel Micro Signal Architecture, or MSA, a highspeed digital signal processor architecture for wireless handheld devices.

In press release Tuesday, Intel said the new design incorporates digital signal processor and microcontroller functions on a single chip.

The MSA silicon is capable of operating at speeds of up to 400 MHz, more than twice as fast as other digital signal processors for wireless handheld devices.

Intel and Analog Devices jointly developed the MSA and introduced the architecture last December.

As part of the joint development agreement, both companies are separately developing and marketing products based on this design.

Intel said the product will be part of an integrated baseband chipset announced later this year for cell phones and other handheld devices
