It's a logical difference. If you are standing on solid ground, even if you do not know you are standing on solid ground, you are still standing on solid ground. The point is we might be in touch with reality. It's a meaningful difference in terms of the provability and "truth" of statements. How could I possibly truthfully (in my own mind) say we are or are not in touch with reality, when I see no way for us to test reality. We have a systems problem in that we are inside of the "reality" we experience. We have no way of getting out of it. People inside the system clearly experience reality very differently- what are we to make of that? Is it illusion that they experience reality differently. Are they all experiencing it the same way, yet failing to understand that? Is reality the illusion? Are there multiple realities? It is very meaningful if you choose to leap onto one of those beliefs and hold it tightly. That belief will change the way you view the world. How you view the world can make a big difference (imo).
