I did it the way suggested, with F8, but first I never got a "Starting Windows ME" (the instructions say 95, of course) msg. This reminded me that I failed using F8 before because I never got the signal, and that's why I was so happy to have F5 to click at the unmistakable beep.

But I did click F8 at a point that seems somehow suggestive of beginnings, and got into DOS, evidently; but "Command Prompt Only" was not a choice offered. What was offered were the following choices only:

Normal

Logged

Safe Mode (that's how I got to it the first time!)

Step by step confirmation

Maybe one of these would have taken me to Command Prompt only, but....

I will try now by getting the DOS prompter via the F5/beep route and typing in NDD and clicking Enter....

I know you're out.

EDIT: oops, that took me to Safe Mode, of course. Now i'll try it via the MS DOS PROMPT I found yesterday....
