PDA,

Here is a link to the uk.people.support.arthritis news group:

Some talk of Pennsaid there.

newsgate.co.uk

There are other posts, this is the most recent (april 7th).

I've included the post below.

Warren

I said some weeks ago I would ask my rheumatologist about the new topical
application just being launched in UK and actually first country in the
world I think. Well three weeks back he and the senior registrar hadn't
heard of it and neither had chemists. I have just heard from my usual
chemist to say that yes it is definately available but like I thought only
on prescription. So as when I ask for my usual repeat prescription I will
leave the deatils and ask if I can have this.

I am seeking to use this like it says for local application in first line
treatment for various conditions including OA. Since I last wrote on here
and on ASA I have read up that a test of people with painful knees who had
OA concluded that the half using diclofenic reported same reduction in pain
as did the PENNSAID users. HOWEVER if this is the case then I want to try
PENNSAID as it doesn't have any damageing effects or bad side effects esp on
digestive system etc.
It works by using the tubule system so I read, so when the cream is applied
it acts cell to cell to lessen the inflamation and pain so doesn't adversely
affect.
I will probably still have to have an appointment with my GP and the
rheumatologist still have to be consulted by the GP as I am various meds and
have other health problems.

My aim is to try to lessen the amount I currently take of meds that do have
some awful side effects and may be giving damage in the long term. Also to
perhaps stave off the need for increased dosage. So even though its
designed they say for first line localised use in OA etc. and I am not just
on first line stuff I still want to give it a try.

I will keep you updated. Meanwhile can anyone else let us know on here if
they obtain it and how they find it etc?

I hope the above is of some use/hope.

If you need to tell your doc or chemist its manufactured by a UK Biotech
firm called Provalis and my pharmacist checked it out just yesterday to
assure me its on prescription.
