I'm sure the Scumbrias of this world will find some less than stellar benchmark to suit their fancy but you may be wrong in writing it off as a poor performer. You may be surprised...

Elmer, how about this scenario...... Itanium, which intel has been manufacturing for quite some time, and by now, probably has very good yields, goes into huge volume production, just prior to the start of McKinley ramp. a few months later, when McKinley is introduced, Itanium price drops refocus it as the "Celeron" of 64bit.

You want the Max bang for your buck 64 bit, you buy McKinley, if you want the 64 bit, but don't need the max, and want to save money, you buy Itanium.

I don't mix with the marketing guys, so it's just speculation, but it seems to make marketing sense, given intels previous "segmentation strategies", and intel does have all this manufacturing capacity....

What do you think??
