Jack, in fairness, every poster on SI, bull or bear could be subject to liability because some lurkers or posters acted on a wrong advice, or even on half an advice. There is an intrinsic assumption that an investor checks such posted facts first, then makes buying or selling decisions. If we start along that path, we will muzzle both critics and enthusiasts of all companies. Don't misunderstand me, I do think Carl crossed the line, but that crossing should bring no more serious repercussions to him than a slap on the wrist. Those Yahoo posters probably are trying to establish a "paper trail" to carry on a personal vendetta, just as dishonorable as Carl's post.
Come to think of it, this post put me on thin ice as well, I am not currently long the bu$$ and thus my mild defense of Carl, is of course designed with the dark motives of "bringing the stock down" (I am not joking, I have been accused of such dark motives many times before, much more than having (light?) motives to bring a stock up so I can sell it at a better profit (or narrower loss).
