"we can have HAL run everything" The degree of complexity in global production is beyond human comprehension -- without "HAL" we have already exceeded the limits of our ability to coordinate and integrate complex products with global production and to sell them in global markets. Some people thought AMZN was the "new economy", or Yahoo, or etoys or ebay -- all kids stuff. That is for the small minds on the "new economy" thread -- which is not about the new economy at all for the most part. Many companies do not yet feel comfortable with advanced global scm yet, but the difference in productivity for those companies who use it effectively will put them head-and-shoulders above the competition. The new economy is about productivity -- pure and simple. But lets not tell the folks on the new economy thread - they think the newe economy is all about stock speculation -- some of them just can't get their dot-com thumbs out of their mouths. One of them can't even find the right orifice.
