So, the results are in some quotes fromt the article at

DSL Modems: Are We There Yet?

DSL developers are making some
progress--especially regarding costs--but
plenty of work remains.

By Rachael King.
Rachael King is public network editor for tele.com. Her
Internet address is rking@teledotcom.com.

....

Among the high-speed ADSL modems, Orckit's FastInternet
clocked the highest downstream speed in the CSA 0
clean-line Blast tests using 1,024-byte packets, at 7.949
Mbit/s. On this line, Aware, Orckit, and Performance
Telecom came closest to the speeds they claim their modems
can handle--in all three cases the difference between the
speeds claimed and our results were less than 5 percent.
Across all distances and line conditions tested, Performance
Telecom's modem was the most consistent in the
high-performance group, coming in on average within 5
percent of the top speed it claims. However, the Performance
Telecom 7 x 640 model does not operate on the ANSI loops
(at distances of 13,500 feet or more on 26-gauge wire), so it
was not tested on the longer test loops. Of the modems that
performed on the ANSI loops, the Orckit FastInternet was
most consistent on average with the speed claimed by the
vendor. For all modems in this group, performance on the
512-byte Blast tests was roughly comparable, although
performance generally fell 1 percent short of the 1,024-byte
numbers.

Snip ..
Among the 7-Mbit/s ADSL modem group, models
from Orckit and Aware hit the highest speeds on CSA 0.

Orckit was not mentioned in the section of the tests that dealt with
distance. This is a result that I would be
interested in seeing (the tester only mentions the following)

Along with the throughput and application tests, tele.com and
NSTL ran some tests to determine the maximum operating
distance of each modem. Performance Telecom's Champion
ADSL 2 x 120 modem took top honors in the distance
contest, hitting a maximum transmission distance of 19,100
feet. Aware's ADSL-Link (18,200 feet) and Paradyne's
HotWire (17,650 feet) were closest to the top mark. Westell
says that since the time that it submitted ADSL units for this
test, it has implemented a modification to its FlexCap2 ADSL
product that provides an additional 1,500 feet in maximum
length. All FlexCap2 systems are shipping with this
modification, Westell says.
