Hewlett Packard warns --7:44am - By Steve Gelsi Hewlett-Packard (HWP) cited "rapid deterioration in consumer information technology spending around the world," in a warning Wednesday that it'll miss its second-quarter earnings target. The tech firm is eyeing earnings of 13 to 17 cents per share, well below the forecast for earnings of 35 cents per share in a survey of analysts by First Call/Thomson Financial. The company said it plans to eliminate up to 3,000 management positions, but set no timetable. HP plans to take a $150 million write-down in the quarter. Intel upgraded to strong buy: PruSec --7:09am - By Emily Church Prudential Securities is upgrading Intel Corp. (INTC) to a strong buy from a hold. Analyst Hans Mosesmann lifted his price target to $40 a share. Intel released first quarter results on Tuesday, and made clear it sees normal seasonal demand trends for its core chips. "A very bold statement this early in the year to be sure. Nonetheless, the evidence the company provided is solid," Mosesmann says in a note to clients. "While demand for servers (processors), notebooks (processors) and communications have not recovered quite yet, we believe this stock should be owned now from a trading perspective given that the bear case of imminent margin collapse has been dispelled."
